What is BOHO?

The definition of BOHO is “Bohemian“.

Bohemian style, called Boho for short, has all the funky elements and the exotic zing of fashion – creating a rich cocktail of casual, hippie 70s style and ethnic along with vintage. Boho Chic style is earthy and layered, with loose, flowing fashions and accessories that are often made from natural materials like linen and gauzy cotton, wood, stones and leather. Woven items are popular and so are beads that are used in jewelry and to decorate purses, belts or anything else.

Dressing boho chic style is a way to express yourself and connect with the world and nature, as well as adorn yourself with the richest flavors of cultures. Today’s global awareness is continuously strengthening this type of fashion.

THE KILIM, A TRUE WORK OF ART!

KILIM BOOTS - BOHMIMI

1 ITS NAME Kilim is the Turkish term. In Iran it is Gelim; in Afghanistan it is Kelim; in Caucasus it is Palas; in Morocco it is Janbel…

2 IT WAS BORN about 3,500 years ago in Central Asia and since then it has spread to Eastern Europe and North Africa.

3 ITS PARTICULARITIES Flat carpet with no hair or knots handmade in wool and/ cotton. The longitudinal yarns that form the base are made by colors, such that each tone is woven separately, this technique is called “slitweave” a flexible, resilient, durable fabric is achieved and in most cases it is reversible .

4 ITS DESIGN The drawings are usually geometric due to its weaving technique, full of symbolism and in bright colors.

5 ITS QUALITY In addition to the complexity of the design, it is determined by the natural dyes. Natural pigments are achieved with a large number of plants, flowers, seeds and roots, as well as other factors that determine the tone such as the water temperature and the steeping time of the cotton / wool which is a process that can take up to several days.

6 ITS MATERIALS In material terms not much is really needed. A loom, a comb pressure and a knife or scissors are the basic tools plus the wool/cotton as the primary material. Sometimes it is mixed with other yarns like silk, silver threads or according to the weaver´s imagination, small decorative embellishments like sequins can be sewn to it.

7 INTERESTING Kilims have their origins in the fabric of Asian nomadic tribes. They used it to waterproof their tent´s flooring, since being flat and compact prevented the passage of the desert sand. Then this manufacturing technique was extended to everyday items like bags, knapsacks, blankets … that required a wear resistant material.
